DataManagement
Overview
With the DataManagement, you manage your waveware installation. It serves for creating the database, for updating waveware and for the backup of your data.
The DataManagement is an independent program, which can be started via the icon 'waveware DataManagement'. It is installed separately. As an alternative to the interface, you can use the DataManagement directly through the command prompt: Command Line Call. |
Login
After starting the DataManagement you are required to enter a password.
By default, it is considered that the administrator uses the DataManagement. Based on this, the username is already predefined. Please, note that only one active session is allowed per user. It is yet possible, that the same user can register in several workstations in the DataManagement at the same time.
Username This unique name illustrates the name of the user. In general, this field is disabled and is set up for the administrator. With the help of the option 'Customizer' (see below), the field can be yet made editable. |
Password Enter the password for the above specified username. |
Name or IP Address of the waveware Server This field implements the redirecting to waveware server. This can be found both in your local computer and in the network, as in the above example. Here, the IP address as well as the resolvable computer name can be specified in the network. |
Customizer Several users can be set up, which can be registered in the DataManagement in addition to the administrator, to make changes in the Designer or in the system rule editor. More information on the set up the user is under 'Customizer Management'. If this option is activated, the field 'Username' can be changed. |
The default password of the administrator should be changed after the first registration.
Interface
Just after the login in the DataManagement, an empty program window is opened, that displays the ribbon 'Tools'.
The buttons and controls on the ribbon are described below.
Data World Management
The central function of DataManagement is the management of data worlds (install IDs or installations) that can be created, edited and deleted using this application. To manage a data world, click the button 'Data World Management', that is at the beginning of the ribbon. The window 'Manage Data Worlds' is opened and the ribbon is updated.
The further setup/processing of a data world is done via modules, that are integrated in the DataManagement and can be restored via the ribbon:
Module | Status Data World | Description |
---|---|---|
Manages waveware data worlds. |
Retrieves the list of data worlds from the server. | |
Inactive | Creates the database structure relevant to the selected install ID, e.g. to use the data world offline. |
Imports a waveware database (of type *.SQL) | |
Exports a waveware database. If requested, only particular tables can be also exported (creates a file of type *.SQL). | |
Inactive | Deletes the database of the currently selected install ID. |
Inactive | Updates the waveware system packages. |
Inactive (Active for the view) |
The package manager supports you when installing or updating packages via the waveware Service Center. |
Package: Local Package Installation |
Inactive | If you do not have direct access to the waveware Service Center, you can also install and update packages locally. |
Inactive | Updates your license file to activate new packages and functions. |
Current Data World: Duplicate |
Allows data worlds to be duplicated, e.g. to use in Offline Mode. | |
Manages waveware SAP installations. | |
Can only be used if the license contains the 'BIM' feature. | |
Miscellaneous settings and tools. | |
Management: Update |
Updates the list of data worlds so that data worlds that were added in the background are visible. | |
An image of the current data structure can be output in XML and CSV format in order to compare the data structure with other waveware installations before a data export, for example, to be able to exchange data with external service providers. | |
Shows a list of your offline data worlds. Here a data world can be assigned to another data world as an offline data world. | |
Creates a backup of your system. | |
You can restore an available backup with this module. | |
Creates a transport order to transfer adjustments on packages or DEF files of your current system to another system. | |
Inactive | Imports a transport order to transfer adjustments on packages or DEF files from test system to your current system. |
Saved Logins: Overview |
As long as login in waveware Client-logins can be saved, they are listed here and can be reset individually or completely. |
DataManagement Powershell
The use of PowerShell commandlets (cmdlets) enables the use of many DataManagement functions by means of textual commands. Open a new command window with 'DataManagement Powershell' via the 'Tools' menu ribbon.
Current Data World
Moreover, the DataManagement provides functions on the basis of a selected data world as well as global settings, that are integrated in the relevant area in the ribbon. After the data world was created, they are offered for selection in the ribbon 'Tools'. The selection is needed to make settings on the basis of a data world; e.g. for the Designer to edit the tables or card layouts of the selected data world. Moreover, the selected data world can be directly activated/disabled via the area in the ribbon or changed to the Service Mode.
Data World Selection Lists all available data worlds. Functions from the ribbon area 'Data World' are applied on the data world setup here. An icon prior to the setup data world shows in which status the set up data world is located. For example, a disabled data world is directly activated with a click. The (waveware Server) Beat automatically executes regular actions. The Service Mode enables the execution of the maintenance-related functions. Both functions can be activated or disabled with a click on the selected data world. |
With the help of the System Rule Editor, rules that provide functionality in waveware, can be edited for the selected data world. |
The Designer enables the processing of the database of a selected data world. New tables can be created and fields defined in them, edited or deleted. Moreover, views and layouts can be managed (e.g. card layout, Navigator, Catalog and Search views). |
Enables the execution of update scripts, that were created on the basis of the 'Package Update API' for the selected data world. |
Supervisor Options Many functionalities use Supervisor Options to make administrative settings. The way of the configuration controls the particular functionality itself, e.g. Settings for the Document Management (DMS). |
SQL Tester With the help of the SQL Tester, the LHSQL commands can be sent to the database of the setup data world for test purposes or converted into regular SQL command. See 'DBLayer' for more information on the available LHSQL commands. |
FreeSQL Determination of SQL commands and their effects by means of selections that are available in waveware. Used to find queries that can be applied in FreeSQL rules. Further information on the setup of FreeSQL is under 'FreeSQL Selections'. |
Global Settings
Global settings do not refer to a particular data world, but to the entire waveware system or all data worlds. The following functions are given here:
waveware Server At this point, central settings for the waveware Server are provided. The settings comprise for example, the configuration for the Data Security, Language, Setup of the Web Server etc. |
Users that can use the DataManagement in addition to the Administrator, are named Customizer. Customizers can for instance, make changes in the Designer or System Rule Editor. |
SNMP The "Simple Network Management Protocol" is used to manage, control and monitor network elements (so-called agents). These are for example, routers, printers and switches. waveware offers an SNMP manager with which data received from devices can be evaluated. |
OPC UA "Open Platform Communication Unified Architecture" is an open standard for the provider and platform-independent data exchange. waveware implements an OPC UA client that can connect to your OPC server. Information can then be read out which is then available for further processing via the waveware server of the package world or the System Rule Editor. |
Telemetry (as of waveware 11.200.3434) waveware has an OpenTelemetry interface that allows monitoring with tracing applications such as Jaeger allows. More information: 'waveware Server: Tracing and Metrics'. |
Status and Protocol
Independently of currently displayed window in the DataManagement, you always receive context information on the selected data world in the status bar. You can see at a glance the status, the name, the directory, the database server and the database name of the set data world.
Moreover, the last changes in the DataManagement are seen via the button 'Protocol'. A dialog appears, that lists the time, the executing user, the function and a comment on every single activity. The protocol is stored in the data directory of the current data world for further use in the file 'DatamanagementLog.xml'.
The other buttons serve for the zoom function, with which the content of the DataManagement window can be zoomed in or out in steps of 10%.
